What this work actually involves.
When tear gas (CS or CN) is deployed inside a structure, the agent settles as a fine particulate that coats every surface and lingers in soft contents and ventilation systems. Reentering or cleaning it without proper protection re-aerosolizes the irritant and causes repeated exposure.
KRI decontaminates structures after tear-gas deployment — following law-enforcement entries, training incidents, and accidental discharges. We neutralize residue on hard and porous surfaces, treat or remove affected contents, and clean the HVAC system so the space can be safely reoccupied.

Equip
Full PPE — Tyvek, P100 respirators, double nitrile, eye protection — staged before any technician enters the affected area.

Physical containment and access control. Adjacent rooms are sealed; HVAC is isolated; entry is logged.

Remove
Unsalvageable porous material is cut out, double-bagged as regulated waste, and chain-of-custody documented for disposal.

Sanitize
Hospital-grade disinfection — multiple passes with EPA-registered tuberculocidals across every reachable surface.

Verify
ATP swab testing and visual re-inspection confirm the area meets the IICRC S540 standard for biohazard remediation.

Certify
Written certificate of decontamination — accepted by insurers, landlords, and county health departments.
QUESTIONS / TEAR GAS REMOVAL

- Why can't I just air the place out?
Tear-gas particulate settles and re-aerosolizes when disturbed. Ventilation alone leaves residue on surfaces and in contents that will keep irritating occupants. It has to be physically removed and neutralized.
- Will my belongings be salvageable?
Many hard items can be decontaminated. Heavily contaminated porous contents sometimes can't be fully cleared; we assess each item and advise honestly on what's salvageable versus what should be replaced.
- Do you respond after a police entry?
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons we're called. We coordinate with the property owner and, where needed, the agency involved to decontaminate the structure after release.
